Aphorism 6 / Spouse / The Spoils of a Bout

Endurance matters for much in the continuous battle-for-ownership-of-selves that we call “relationships.” For, the winner of each bout isn’t necessarily the striker of the hardest blows, nor the first to strike, nor the one with more truth, nor the one with the most persuasive argument…but merely the one still holding their ground in the end. The spouse still pestering the other into submission. And the spoils! The right to define both selves!
